Are we going to grab a superstar OF?

Crasnick says the Angels and Abreu have reached a preliminary agreement. It’ll be a done deal once he passes his physical and the Angels remove Nick Green from the 40-man to make room. Crasnick says the total could be near $8MM if Abreu hits his incentives. Also:

The Braves have also expressed serious interest in Abreu, but sources said Atlanta’s budget is so tight that general manager Frank Wren would have to stretch to give him a $5MM salary.

This is probably one of the weakest statements I have heard from Frank Wren. Rather than offering Glavine a multi-million dollar deal he should have gone after Abreu. Wren couldn’t keep Smoltzie over a few million dollars and now we can land Abreu in similar circumstance.

Chipper’s 400

Maybe it’s luck or maybe it’s that I just love baseball and seem to always be at the right place at the right time. I was not even going to go to tonights game, until a friend called me and told me to get out of the house and go the your favorite place in the Atl. And the rest goes down in the history books. Between being at the first home opener game against the Marlins where the Bravos came back in the 9th and then 10th to win and then watching Chipper rip his 400th and even steal a base, I have to say this has been a hell of a great week for baseball and the Bravos. Go Braves and lets sweep the Phillies this weekend.

6 in a Row

I cannot tell you how happy I was when the Braves came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Pads today. The six-game winning streak is the longest since July 2006, when the Braves won 7 in a row. This beats last years record of 5 in a row and shows how determined the Bravos are to reclaim first place and take October by a storm. Go Bravos.

Bravos back on track

With a season high 15 hits on Sunday, the Braves swept the Reds and regained some composure. Chipper blasted another homer for his 9th of the season and Kotsay is turning out to be both a great defensive and offensive player. I was in Florida this weekend and saw Andrew Jones play vs the Marlins and have to admit that although I still love what he does in the outfield, his batting is terrible. So as of right now, the Bravos seemed to have made the right decision to let him go.

Up next are the Padres. Last year the Braves were 5-2 vs the Padres.

Slumping Braves

For the past 3 games, Atlanta has suffered some major blows – mostly from our pitching staff. If we continue the season like with  this sorta playing, it will be very unlikely that we see any post-season action. The easiest strategy is take one game at a time. It’s still very early in the season and there are tons of games left. But if the players and management do not step outside the box and really analyze our problems – we are going to be in trouble.
